Sample Letter
Dear [x],
I am writing in hopes you can play a role in making America's highways safer.
As the driver of a passenger car, I experience the daily danger of speeding trucks bearing down on cars. And I see the frequent news reports about fatal accidents caused because trucks were going so fast, the drivers didn't have time to react when traffic conditions changed rapidly.
The solution I advocate is simple and fair. We need a national requirement that trucks with 10 wheels or more must operate with speed governors limiting their top speed to 68 miles an hour with a $10,000 fine for violators caught with disconnected or non-functioning governors.
Many trucking firms use speed governors, but other firms do not. The proposal requiring trucks to operate with speed governors is endorsed by highway safety experts and will be welcomed by millions of motorists. We need a blanket federal rule.
Your support of this important requirement will literally save thousands of lives each year, while still allowing trucking companies to fill their important role. Please let me know I can count on your support.
Sincerely,
